Beautiful Silent Film of The Sandman

My husband found a beautiful contemporary silent film of E.T.A. Hoffmann's  The Sandman and Freud's interpretation of the uncanny.

  3. I don't generally compare texts to films because what each is doing is very different. The film was not trying to faithfully render the story as much as the Freudian interpretation.

Films that just faithfully reproduce texts can be fun to watch, but aren't interesting cinematically. (Sorry, but I minored in film for my PhD). Frankly no one, including Offenbach, has really equalled the text.
